We all know that pets can be poisoned by things like chocolate, bleach, antifreeze and pesticides. But there are some common items found in and around your home that can be fatal to your animal companion!

Medications - Prescription AND Over-The-Counter
Keep all medications away from pets and children. Be careful not to drop any tablets or capsules on the floor. Even ONE acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen pill can cause kidney failure and even death!

Sugar Free Foods, Candy, Gum, Breath Mints, Drinks
Sugar free items typically contain Xylitol. Dogs absorb Xylitol quickly which can spike their insulin levels, causing dangerously low blood sugar levels that can be life-threatening if left untreated. Xylitol can also be found in common products such as toothpaste, chewable vitamins, and mouthwash.

Batteries
If your dog punctures a battery, toxic fluid can leak out and cause to serious harm. If your dog chews on the remote or gets hold of a battery-operated toy, take it away immediately and inspect the batteries. If you notice even a slight puncture, contact your veterinarian or call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center

Dryer Sheets (YES, dryer sheets!)
The chemicals infused into dryer sheets can harm your pet if they chew on or ingest a sheet, even a used one!
