Frequently Asked Questions

When it snows, who digs out the fire hydrants?

When it snows and you have a fire hydrant on your property, it is a good practice to shovel the snow away from the hydrant. This makes it easier for the fire department to locate the hydrant in a emergency situation.

Should I call 911 or the Islip Terrace FD directly in an emergency?

Calling 911 is always a way to get help in an emergency, but calling direct can lead to an improved response time. Direct calls are connected to one of our dispatchers on premises with immediate access to activating an emergency response from the department.

Our Emergency Hotline number is 631-581-5437(KIDS) which is staffed around the clock.
